The Paul Rapetsoa Legacy Project
Legacy (PRL) project, we invite you to join us for
a momentous occasion that will celebrate the life and
times of Mahuma Paul Rapetsoa, affectionaly known
to many as “Bra Paul”, a pioneer in Limpopo’s arts and
culture scene. With a legacy that spans decades, Bra
Paul’s contributions to the arts have been nothing short
of remarkable, inspiring generations of artists, cultural
practitioners, and community leaders.
The Fundraising Gala Dinner
12 December 2025 at 18h00
The PRL Fundraising Gala Dinner is an opportunity to reflect
on Bra Paul’s enduring impact, while also looking
to the future and the role that arts and culture can play
in shaping our province’s identity and development. As
we count down to the Mapungubwe Arts Festival and
look forward to the envisaged opening of the provincial
theatre, this event marks a significant milestone in our
journey to promote arts and culture in Limpopo.
2026 Initiatives - What we are raising money for
10-Month Performing Arts Training Programme
A flagship development journey aimed at nurturing 50 talented young people from across Limpopo — 10 from each district. This intensive 10-month programme will provide professional-grade training in acting, voice, movement, stagecraft, writing and production. Beyond technical skills, it’s designed to build confidence, discipline and a sense of artistic identity. The goal is to open pathways into the creative industries while giving young people a safe space to explore their potential and tell their own stories.
Provincial & National Theatre Roadshows
A series of travelling theatre productions that take high-quality, socially resonant performances directly to communities across Limpopo and South Africa. Each roadshow is crafted around themes relevant to the commissioning client or stakeholder — from social cohesion and education to public health, heritage, or youth development. The roadshows serve a dual purpose: offering employment and experience for young performers, while using theatre as a tool for dialogue, awareness, and community upliftment.
Student-Led Radio Production Project
A practical, industry-aligned radio initiative where students write, produce, and perform radio dramas and single-episode content in partnership with the SABC Limpopo Combo and other radio stations. This project gives learners real-world broadcasting experience, building skills in scriptwriting, sound engineering, voice acting and production management. It also creates accessible, high-impact content that reaches deep into communities — amplifying young voices while preserving local languages and storytelling traditions.
Mahuma Paul Rapetsoa Documentary
A feature documentary capturing the life, influence, and artistic legacy of Mahuma Paul Rapetsoa. More than a biography, this film will celebrate the creative richness, cultural diversity, and heritage of Limpopo — and honour a man whose work shaped generations of performers. The documentary will serve as both an educational resource and an enduring archive, ensuring that his story continues to inspire young artists, schools, communities, and cultural practitioners across South Africa and beyond.
Limpopo International Arts & Heritage Festival
A vibrant, multi-disciplinary festival that will showcase the best of Limpopo’s artistic talent alongside celebrated performers from across Africa and the world. The festival will blend theatre, music, dance, visual arts, film, heritage exhibitions, and community workshops — positioning Limpopo as a cultural destination of note. Beyond entertainment, the event will stimulate local tourism, create job opportunities, and provide a global platform for young artists developed through the Paul Rapetsoa Legacy initiatives.
